HISTORICAL 4 WALLS

In our studios you can expect historical flair with modern design and furnishings.

The historic town house at Hofgasse 5, one of the oldest buildings in Innsbruck, was extensively renovated in close cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office and reopened as a modern apartment building. Behind the baroque façade, a “historical experience hotel” was created, which houses 22 suites and allows guests to stay in the midst of museum-like buildings. The renovation is considered a milestone for the preservation of historic buildings in Innsbruck’s old town, as it was possible to discreetly integrate state-of-the-art infrastructure such as an innovative heat pump system in the basement, while the floors above ground were able to retain their original character.

During the work, important historical treasures came to light, including Romanesque wall remains, a wooden coffered ceiling from the 1580s and rare wall paintings in the Italian Mannerist style. Archaeological excavations in old latrine pits and wells have also unearthed everyday objects such as porcelain pipe bowls, playing cards and coins. Through careful restoration, original details such as ancient ceiling beams and a historic cable elevator were incorporated directly into the design of the suites, allowing the house to shine in new splendor as a valuable testimony to Innsbruck’s city history.
